Our Favorite Allergy-Friendly Small Businesses on Oʻahu’s North Shore + Community Recommendations (And Why They Need Your Support Right Now)
The North Shore of Oʻahu is known for its beauty, surf, and small-town charm—but behind the scenes, many local businesses are still recovering from the devastating Kona low storms and flooding.
For a while, visitors & locals stayed away out of respect. But now, that absence is being felt deeply.
These businesses don’t just need support—they deserve it.
As an allergy family, finding safe places to eat isn’t easy. These five businesses have gone above and beyond for us time and time again… and what they’ve done for their community in the aftermath of the floods makes supporting them even more meaningful.
1. Nomadic HI (Haleʻiwa)
Nomadic HI food truck (previously knowns as Wicked HI)
A must-visit for allergy-conscious families and pizza lovers alike. Their honey slush (3 ingredients: local fruit, water, topped with raw, local honey from HI HONEY) has been a favorite for my child, and their sourdough pizza is hands-down one of the best on the island.
For every donation made to provide flood victims relief, they offered their famous sourdough waffle… for free.
Their sourdough pizza with spicy honey on the side… is what dreams are made of.
2. Matsumoto Shave Ice (Haleʻiwa)
An iconic North Shore stop—but what stands out most is their care for customers with allergies.
They offer delicious, clean, dye-free options (ex: lilikoi & lychee) and take extra precautions (glove change, new ice block, etc). Truly exceptional.
After the floods, they donated $10,000 and directly supported affected families.
They even have a fun general store where they sell shirts, hats, gifts.
3. Bird’s Nest Cafe (Haleʻiwa)
They also make safe, allergy-friendly tea options that we trust.
A newer business that has already made a huge impact. They’ve continued donating 100% of their proceeds to those in need—even after being affected themselves.
4. Haleʻiwa Bowls (Haleʻiwa)
Our favorite açaí bowls on island… but the hearts of those who make these bowls are just >
Consistently thoughtful and accommodating. They carefully note allergies, offer swaps, and during the floods, quietly provided bowls to those impacted—without asking questions.
5. HI Honey Farm (North Shore Oʻahu)
They humbly ask that you visit their farm to learn more about their bees, raw honey, and more. Reservations required.
This one hits deep. The floods devastated their bee population, and without bees, our entire food system is at risk.
They’re actively rebuilding and even offer ways to sponsor a hive, contribute to their HI HONEY FARM Flood recovery Amazon wishlist, and currently use all proceeds to rebuild what was lost for the colonies that survived.
Honorable Mentions
While not all meet our family’s specific allergy needs, these businesses continue to show incredible generosity and community support:
Surf N Salsa
Jax Pizza
Farm to Barn
Sweet Land Farm Hawaii
